Poma Fertility Reproductive Endocrinologist Dr. Michael Opsahl wins 2013 Top Doctor Award from HealthTap.com
As part of its Winter 2013 Top Doctor Competition, Health Tap, an online forum where doctors respond directly to medical questions from prospective patients, has awarded Dr. Michael Opsahl as a premier contributor in the field on infertility.
Health Tap Chief Medical Information Officer Dr. Geoffrey W. Rutledge selected Opsahl for the nomination based on reader comments.
In a letter to Opsahl, Rutledge said that, “we measure the number of people you help from the number of people who read your answers and the number of thanks and thank you notes you get from patients.” In his letter, Rutledge added that the nomination process is also based on “the number of experts who vote for…and recommend you. “
A self professed computer nut, Opsahl said he was happy to be online helping people out.
“There is a massive amount of infertility treatment information floating around on the Internet, and for some patients it is hard to break things down into an understandable format,” Opsahl said. “Working on Health Tap, I can just answer anyone’s questions directly. I am always happy to help people get clear on understand their infertility situation.”
The top doctor nominee’s are selected by an exhaustive review process. Opsahl was nominated because of his extensive contributions to Health Tap where he has received online accolades including being second in the United States in fertility contributions for taking his time to interact with people and answer their medical questions.
According to Health Tap, “it’s hard to find straightforward, trustworthy answers to personal health questions online. When we do find health information, it’s often general and rarely relevant. Even if it might be useful, it’s hard to know if it’s trustworthy.”
Opsahl agrees that this is why direct online interaction with physicians is needed.
“There a millions of people seeking credible, evidence-based health information online, but it’s not always easy to find helpful answers,” Opsahl said. “I like using the web to communicate with these people directly and have a dialogue.”
