Poma Fertility doctor to speak on the links between Eastern and Western medical treatment approaches
Poma Fertility Reproductive Endocrinologist Dr. Michael Opsahl speaking at a sold out fertility course, Saturday, March 30, at the Jade Institute located at 122 N. 74th St. in Seattle, on Saturday March 30.
The 2013 Comprehensive Perspectives on the Diagnosis, Treatment and Management of Infertility is being held over the course of six separate Saturdays spanning four months. The second class will feature Opsahl as a lecturer.
According to the Jade Institute, the conference is, “one of the most comprehensive courses available in the country on the Chinese medicine treatment of female and male fertility.”
Opsahl said that he believes in a comprehensive approach to treating infertility.
“Just because a type of medical treatment approach is not typically used in the West doesn’t mean it’s not valid,” he said. “Anything that can help patients relax during the sometimes difficult process of infertility treatment is helpful.”
Opsahl’s lecture time will focus on helping the students in attendance understand the laboratory tests involved in a typical reproductive endocrinology workup. Other topics will include understanding the processes of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI). Opsahl said he will also take time to answer any questions on reproductive endocrinology and the infertility treatment process.
The Jade Institute adds that the course is, “designed to enhance clinical skills, to promote effective understanding and collaboration with other fertility medical providers, and prepare acupuncture and herbal practitioners to specialize in fertility care.”
Some research suggests that acupuncture and oriental medicine (AOM) can be a helpful adjunct for fertility treatments. AOM has been used to decrease stress and even to help treat conditions like endometriosis.
The conference aims to show students how AOM treatments can interface with infertility treatments such as IVF and even artificial insemination.
