MicroSort gender selection offers a technique to separate the sperm into those containing an X chromosome (leads to a girl) and those containing a Y chromosome (leads to a boy). The technique is patented by Genetics & IVF Institute. It is currently considered an experimental procedure until the FDA approves the device for routine use and is not available yet in the United States.
Please see the MicroSort web site (www.microsort.com) for details and up-to-date information.
Notice that when an X-sort will yield a purity of 88% X-bearing sperm as judged by genetic testing after the sort. However, a Y-sort is only 74% pure for Y-bearing sperm because the Y-chromosome is more variable.
