Here is a survey poll to get your thoughts on elective egg freezing.
Egg Freezing is a “new” technique to store unfertilized eggs for future fertility. Banking gametes (eggs or sperm) is not new in that we have frozen sperm for decades and eggs for many years. What is new is that egg freezing has become successful enough that fertility centers and women consider the technique to be a viable alternative for women who have reason to worry about their fertility.
Sperm banking is easy and inexpensive (at least relatively) therefore we have a large amount of data and experience to know how and when to freeze sperm. Sperm are also easy to freeze because the DNA is more “protected” than in eggs. Men do not usually need to consider freezing sperm because they make sperm until they die. Unfortunately, women are born with all their eggs, they begin using them from before birth, all women run out of eggs – menopause, the eggs are hard to get since they are inside the body and the eggs are more “fragile” with respect to freezing.
